Dabbling in many schools of magic yet not fully embracing any, the impoverished, obsessive study of an independent mage can sometimes yield impressive results. Unrestrained by the structure of formal apprenticeship, Shadow Magi have learned to weave together spell and sword, seizing the secrets of both light and darkness with equal fervor. One of the many fruits of their labor is the unnerving power to vanish and evade seemingly-lethal blows, only to reappear moments later and strike in sudden retaliation.
